Sun Rice Flavours of the World
The Burdekin Water Festival’s Tastes of the Burdekin has been given a makeover and will be known as Sun Rice Flavours of the World. The event, which has run in some form since 2003, will this year focus on the multicultural aspect of food and will welcome two well-known reality TV stars as its guest chefs.
Water Festival President, David Cooper, said the committee had sought input and put considerable work into the makeover but were sure the results would be well worth it. “When the event started, there was a big focus on letting people sample foods from various cultures,” he said. “In some ways we are going full circle but we want to ensure we celebrate the various cultures that make up our district and there is no better way to do that than with food.”
Stallholders at this year’s event will be asked to embrace the cultural element of the event by offering a variety of food for the public to try. “The idea is to let people sample food from around the world without leaving home,” Mr Cooper said.
The event will feature many of the attractions that its predecessor was known for including cooking demonstrations and the Pacific Reef Fisheries Celebrity Cook Off. “This year’s Celebrity Cook Off will feature teams from our 3 local high schools and our celebrity chefs this year are Jac & Shaz from My Kitchen Rules.”
